Day 3 – Tuesday August 4, 2015. lots of nothing. and humus.
We got up this morning around 840, fell back asleep, and got out of bed around 945.
We got dressed – me in gym clothes and Tzvi in bathing suit – and made our way downstairs. Tzvi got an iced coffee and proceeded to the pool, where he would spend the next seven hours. I went to the gym, then went back to the room, got changed, and then met Tzvi at the pool. My parents joined us around 1230, and we went for lunch at the restaurant at the pool.
For lunch we started with a hummus and vegetable appetizer and, of course, once again, chips and guac. Every time we get guac here it’s different. For our mains, I had a veggie burger, which was really a chickpea burger and tasted like a huge falafel, and Tzvi had a salad with grilled wahoo. I think it was a little different than yesterday’s burger. My burger came with fries which were really good.
After lunch we went back to our seats, sat, swam, read, basically did nothing. I left the pool around 5, and Tzvi stayed for an extra half hour. We showered, got dressed, and got ready to go to dinner.
For dinner we finally ventured outside the hotel, taking a cab to the Gibbs Lighthouse, only five minutes away. The restaurant was called The Dining Room (at the Lighthouse) and was right next to/below the lighthouse. It was actually a stunning setting. On one side we had the lighthouse with the sun setting behind it, on another side we had Jew’s Bay, and on a third side was our hotel. It was very nice.
Dinner was good – not our best meal yet – but still tasty. To start, my parents and I each had a garden salad and Tzvi had a caesar salad. For mains, pop pop and I both got margarita pizzas, and Tzvi and mama had the blackened wahoo special. Everywhere we go they serve wahoo. Apparently it’s an island specialty. Maybe it’s actually a really cheap fish and they have too much of it and cant get rid of it fast enough. Oh well. Tzvi seems to like it. Everything was good, but after a rat, or maybe it was a mouse, came running by, we felt like it was time to go. We paid the check, got a cab and headed back to the hotel.
The cab driver was very animated. He put Tzvi and pop pop in the back row behind me and mama and said they were supposed to give us neck massages. Then he basically kept talking for the entire ride, about chickens and tomatoes and Montsanto and who knows what. He seemed to be pretty knowledgeable, but he spoke a lot.
Back at the hotel we took a table at the Jasmine Lounge which is in the lobby. There was a band playing and they had a steel drum, which was nice and islandy. We ordered three decaf capucinos and a pineapple upside down cake. All was good. I spilled the cappuccino Tzvi and I were sharing and lost about half the cup to the table. It was okay. The waiter didn’t charge us for that one.
After that we made our way back upstairs and now we’re in bed getting ready to go to sleep. We have to be up early tomorrow for our 10 am bike tour!
